Can I bring a hammock on a cruise?

No, hammocks are generally prohibited on cruise ships. Carnival Cruise Line explicitly bans hammocks for safety reasons, and they will be removed if attempted. Disney Cruise Line also prohibits hammocks.

  • Hammocks cannot be hung on balconies due to safety concerns about weight capacity and load-bearing connections

  • A loosely hung hammock could blow overboard if untied, violating environmental policies

  • If purchased in port, you must declare it to security officers who will confiscate it and provide documentation for retrieval at the end of the cruise

  • Virgin Voyages ships are an exception, with hammocks properly installed and tested on guest balconies
