Does travel insurance cover trip interruptions?

Yes. Trip interruption insurance compensates you for unused, non-refundable trip expenses if you have to cut your trip short for a covered reason, such as a family emergency, illness, or severe weather.

  • Covers unused, non-refundable airfare, accommodations, and tours

  • Also pays for last-minute flight home if you need to return earlier than planned

  • Reimbursement is typically 100-200% of insured trip cost

  • Some policies offer higher percentages (up to 200%) for last-minute flights home

  • Covered reasons include: emergency back home, unexpected illness/injury, or other listed events

  • Does not cover interruption due to cloudy weather or personal preference

  • "Interruption for Any Reason" (IFAR) upgrade allows cancellation for any reason, reimbursing up to 75% of costs (must be purchased 15-20 days after trip deposit)
