Does travel insurance cover Ebola Virus related cancellations?

Yes, in most cases if the outbreak becomes known after you purchase your policy. If the outbreak is a "known event" at the time of purchase, coverage may be denied, timing matters.

  • Travel insurance covers cancellations due to illness, including infectious diseases, if you contract the illness before departure

  • If an outbreak is declared a "known event" before you purchase your policy, cancellation due to fear of travel may not be covered

  • CDC travel warnings may trigger coverage for trip cancellation or interruption for some policies

  • Standard "fear of travel" is typically not a covered reason. You must have a specific covered reason (illness, quarantine, etc.)

  • Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR) covers this if purchased within required timeframe (10-21 days of trip deposit)

  • Check your policy's specific exclusions regarding epidemics or pandemics
