Can I buy travel insurance after I have already started my trip?

No. Travel insurance must be purchased before your trip begins. You cannot buy coverage after departure.

  • Travel insurance protects against future unforeseen events, not events that have already occurred

  • Some policies allow extension of coverage while already traveling (renewal), but you cannot start a new policy mid-trip

  • Medical-only policies may be purchased while abroad, but cancellation and trip interruption coverage won't apply

  • For existing travelers, consider medical evacuation memberships as alternative

  • Annual multi-trip policies must also be purchased before your first covered trip
