Can I bring a food hamper as a gift to Australia?

Yes, but declare everything. Australia has strict biosecurity laws. Commercial packaged foods are generally allowed. Home-made, fresh, or meat products are prohibited.

  • All food items must be declared on your incoming passenger card

  • Commercially packaged, shelf-stable foods (chocolates, biscuits, coffee, tea) are generally allowed

  • Prohibited items: fresh fruit and vegetables, meat products (any form), home-made foods, eggs, dairy, honey, nuts with shells

  • Failure to declare food items results in fines starting at $2,664 AUD

  • Some items may be allowed after inspection by biosecurity officers

  • Gifts are subject to same rules as personal food items

  • Remove all food from hamper for easier inspection
