Does travel insurance cover me if I travel to a country with a travel warning?

Usually not. Most policies exclude coverage if you travel to a country with a State Department or similar travel warning in place at the time of purchase or departure.

  • If a travel warning is issued after you purchase your policy, you may be covered for cancellation

  • Some policies specifically exclude coverage for travel to countries with active warnings

  • Political evacuation coverage may be available as add-on to cover these situations

  • Check your policy's specific exclusions before traveling to high-risk destinations

  • "Traveling against government advice" is a common policy exclusion

  • Some policies cover evacuation from areas that become unsafe after departure
