Can I bring a gasoline can on a plane?

No. Gasoline and gasoline cans with any fuel residue are strictly prohibited in both carry-on and checked bags .

  • Gasoline is explicitly listed as a prohibited flammable liquid 

  • Even empty containers that previously held gasoline may retain flammable fumes

  • Civil penalties for carrying gasoline can range from $450 to $2,570 

  • Cooking fuels, lighter fluids, and other flammable liquids are also banned
