Can I bring a tool belt in my carry-on?
Yes, but with restrictions. Tools 7 inches or shorter may be allowed in carry-on. Power tools and tools longer than 7 inches must go in checked baggage.
Hand tools under 7 inches (wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, small hammers) may be allowed in carry-on
Power tools (drills, saws, sanders) are prohibited in carry-on, must be checked
Tools over 7 inches in length must be packed in checked luggage
The final decision rests with the TSA officer at the checkpoint
Tool belts with knives or sharp blades (any length) are not allowed in carry-on
All tools in checked bags should be sheathed or securely wrapped to prevent injury to baggage handlers
