Can I bring a tool belt in my carry-on?

Yes, but with restrictions. Tools 7 inches or shorter may be allowed in carry-on. Power tools and tools longer than 7 inches must go in checked baggage.

  • Hand tools under 7 inches (wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, small hammers) may be allowed in carry-on

  • Power tools (drills, saws, sanders) are prohibited in carry-on, must be checked

  • Tools over 7 inches in length must be packed in checked luggage

  • The final decision rests with the TSA officer at the checkpoint

  • Tool belts with knives or sharp blades (any length) are not allowed in carry-on

  • All tools in checked bags should be sheathed or securely wrapped to prevent injury to baggage handlers
