Can I bring a camping stove on a plane?

No, camping stoves with fuel residue are banned. New, unused, and thoroughly cleaned stoves without fuel may be allowed in checked luggage only.

  • Fuel canisters (propane, butane, white gas): banned (carry-on and checked)

  • Used stove with fuel smell: banned (TSA considers it hazardous)

  • Brand new, never used stove: allowed in checked bag only

  • Alcohol stoves: banned if any fuel residue remains
